The Bucks County Foodshed Alliance is hosting a free screening of the documentary film Queen of the Sun on Wednesday, February 6, at Delaware Valley College’s the Mandell Building, Room 114.

Doors open at 6:30 and the screening begins at 7:00. Former state apiary inspector Maria Cramer will answer questions. 

In the fall of 2006, an unnerving phenomenon came to light: honeybees were disappearing from hives across the U.S. Beekeepers and commercial beekeeping enterprises reported losses of 30 percent – some up to 90 percent – of their colonies.

The crisis this heralded prompted filmmaker Taggart Siegel, director of The Real Dirt on Farmer John, to provide a profound alternative look at the catastrophic disappearance of honeybees and the role bees play in around the globe.

The resulting 82-minute documentary, Queen of the Sun: What Are the Bees Telling Us?, directed and produced by Siegel, weaves together the dramatic, engaging and ultimately uplifting story of the struggles of beekeepers, scientists and philosophers from around the world. Bee expert Maria Cramer is a senior at Delaware Valley College in the Horticulture program. She will answer questions about bees and beekeeping.
