Warminster Priest Surprised by Cardinals' Choice for Pope
Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 76, has been chosen as the next pope.
Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the son of an Italian railway worker, becomes the first Jesuit and first Latin American pontiff. He has taken the name Francis I.
Father Gary Kramer of St. John Bosco Parish said he was surprised when he heard the news.
"Everybody was shocked when his name was given," he said. "His name was not really talked about." Kramer noted that Bergoglio was discussed as a candidate in the last papal election, but not this one.
He said he was unsure what the naming of Bergoglio as pope meant for the future of the Catholic Church.
"Time will tell," he said.
What do you think? Tell us about it in the comments section.
