Hundreds Gather for Concerned Gun Owners of Bucks County Meeting

It was standing-room only at the VFW Post on Louis Drive in Warminster Tuesday evening for the Concerned Gun Owners of Bucks County Meeting.

 

Hundreds turned out for the second Concerned Gun Owners of Bucks County meeting. For many, it was their first exposure to the group.

Several notable Bucks County officials were in attendance at the meeting, including District Attorney David Heckler, Prothonotary Patricia Bachtle and Sheriff Edward Donnelly.  

Meeting leader Steve Onufrey said the group was born around a kitchen table by a group of friends talking about the reaction to Sandy Hook.

"We are peaceful citizens that believe in the God given right to defend," said Onufrey. "We are standing firm on the second amendment."

He said the mission of the group was to educate and inform as well as a call to action.

The group met for two hours, including break-out sessions for discussion. The next meeting of CGOBC is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the VFW Post on Louis Drive in Warminster.

People are losing sight of the purpose of the changes that have been considered. And hey-- the last time they held one of these meetings, some guy was shooting at officers in Warminster, no?

Respectfully, no one is losing sight of the "purpose" of these changes being considered. What the proponents of recent gun control/restriction/confiscation proposals fail to admit is that the changes they propose will do nothing to stem the violence that they claim they are targeting. Actually, some have admitted that, including Joe Biden but for some inexplicable reason they are still trying to forge ahead along this fruitless path. I have yet to see a proposal that addresses the root causes of this violence, but I have seen many that are merely knee-jerk reactions that will only serve to erode the rights of law abiding citizens. If you have ideas about how reform can be brought about sensibly and effectively without targeting the wrong people, please come to one of our meetings and feel free to discuss them. You will not be attacked, mocked or ridiculed. This group is committed to the defense of the Constitution and the preservation of the rights of all citizens. The immediate focus is on the 2nd amendment but believe me, the roots of our cause go well beyond that.

Great group. Great meeting. Whether you choose to own a gun or not, these folks are standing up for OUR 2nd Amendment RIGHTS! It's about freedom vs. tyranny.

Yes, 2nd amendment rights that had been put together how many years ago? I don’t think they had extended clip muskets back then. Things change for a reason; rules need to be adjusted as life changes.

If they had extended MAGAZINES and todays arms back then, they absolutely would have been tolerated. Our arms should be of military equivlant. Or at least close. Go enjoy defending yourself, property and family with a plastic butter knife. I'll stick with my AK and my ample supply of 30 round magazines. Maria had it correct: "It's about freedom vs. tyranny." Exactly what the 2A was created for.

Things do change. They didn't have cell phones, TV or internet when they drew up the 1st Amendment yet people use those methods as an extension to the 1st Amendment as part of their freedom of speech and not once has anyone ever mentioned changing the 1st Amendment to adjust to them. Criminals also didn't break into peoples houses with semi-auto rifles with 30 round magazines either in the 1700's.
Another thing, Joe. Anyone that has any knowledge of modern guns or has a clue what they are talking about know they are extended magazines and not extended clips.

Do any of you realize how clownish it is to champion and defend the Second Amendment? The same people who wrote the Second Amendment, also believed that a black person was only 3/5 of a human. They sure aren't the type of people that I would want to use as an ideal model for my lifestyle and personal beliefs. Times change, people evolve. When a better idea comes along, embrace it and implement it. Holding on to outdated views is foolish and destructive.

Delegates supportive of slavery, on the other hand, generally wanted to count slaves in their actual numbers. Since slaves could not vote, slaveholders would thus have the benefit of increased representation in the House and the Electoral College. The final compromise of counting "all other persons" as only three-fifths of their actual numbers reduced the power of the slave states relative to the original southern proposals, but increased it over the northern position foolish and destructive?

Your statement "Holding on to outdated views is foolish and destructive" places you in a self appointed position of judgement of others. It's when groups of individuals such as you congeal together like a scab on liberty that adherence to the original intent of the Second Amendment is the most relevant. I do, however, agree with your statement about better ideas , I love my extended capacity magazines as well as my laser sights.

I personally dont own a gun nor plan to, but I support this organization 100%. The Bill of Rights says-
"That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

If This Gun , Ammunition Ban is put in place the Criminal will still get Guns or anything else in his hands to Kill. The Right to arm yourself should stay in place and those that do not want to own a gun have that right as well. I asked one person how would he defend his Home if it was attacked and all he could show me was his I Pad. I agree that they are a great fly killer.

The idea that a private citizen should be allowed to possess weapons on par with or identical to those used in war is absurd. This is a position that was supported by the 2008 Supreme Court decision on the issue. In the majority position written by arguably the most conservative Justice on the court, Antonin Scalia, it states that "Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose. [This court's ruling] holds that the sorts of weapons protected are those 'in common use at the time' finds support in the historical tradition of prohibiting the carrying of dangerous and unusual weapons."

By allowing the sale of assault weapons and unfathomable amounts of ammunition in our nation we are asking for increases in gun deaths. If you have more cars on the road you are going to have more car accidents. Likewise, if you put more guns into society there will be more instances of people firing guns and therefore more accidental (and intentional) shootings. However, the difference is cars are not engineered and manufactured to kill people. In an effort to reduce the number of fatalities that result from inevitable car accidents we allow our government to issue safety requirements that car manufacturers must follow by law. Why should guns, a tool designed to kill, not be subject to the same common sense regulations?
