Local EMT Killed in Kensington Warehouse Fire

Daniel Sweeney was one of two firefighters killed in a massive blaze at a Kensington warehouse Monday morning.

A local EMT was one of two firefighters killed in an early-morning five alarm warehouse fire in Kensington, CBSPhilly.com reports.

Daniel Sweeney, 25, was a professional member of the Philadelphia Fire Department and also a part-time paramedic with the , Tri-Hampton and Penndel-Middletown EMS squads. 

According to CBS Philly, the call went out to first responders at 3:13 a.m. and quickly upgraded to five-alarm blaze. The flames were under control by 5:21 a.m., and firefighters began investigating the adjacent furniture store for damage when the walls collapsed, trapping Sweeney and four other firemen.

Lt. Robert Neary, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene, and Sweeney died later at Temple University Hospital. Francis Chaney and Pat Nally were injured and reported to be in stable condition.

The city fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, CBS Philly reports.
