Trial Date Set for Bucks Landing Stabbing Suspects
Two men charged with last year's killing of Tyrone Newman were arraigned in Doylestown Tuesday and will go to trial May 7.
Not guilty pleas were entered Tuesday afternoon by the attorneys of two Camden men accused of stabbing and killing a Warminster man in one of the Bucks Landing apartment buildings last year, phillyburbs.com reports.
Laurie "Turtle" Wint, 23, and John "Jermaine" Briggs, 24, will go to trial May 7 for the murder of Tyrone Newman in June 2011. According to phillyburbs.com, an investigation revealed that Newman had received drugs from another person, named "Mike" and did not pay for them. Wint, Briggs and "Mike" confronted Newman about the payment, sparking a fight.
Police say that Newman sliced at Wint's face with a knife, then ran off. He was chased down and stabbed and kicked by Wint and Briggs inside the K Building at Bucks Landing, according to the investigation, and died from a punctured lung an hour after ambulances took him to Abington Memorial Hospital.
Wint and Briggs managed to elude authorities for several weeks until they were caught in Camden by New Jersey police and extradicted to Bucks County. Both suspects are charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assualt and criminal conspiracy and could face life in prison if convicted.
