How can you change an institution such as Halloween? To be honest, weekend afternoons are such a difficult time for those of us who work Monday thru Friday since we have to run errands. How are you expecting entire neighbor hoods to know that you have switched up the date? Are you anticipating that we are to make ourselves available on both days as not everyone will know that you changed the date for Halloween??

Who made this decision? I understand to postpone a few days but Sat afternoon? Am I the only family who has plans on Sat afternoon.

No way.My kids will still trick or treat tomorrow.There's no good reason not to follow tradition.

I get the day change, there are still many trees down and electricity out but the time?? Kids are still playing sports and don't forget the parents who work, did anyone think of that? Trick or treating should be fun not a stressed time frame that we have to squeeze into someone else's schedule at Is good for them.

I cannot believe what I am reading. No one can mandate a change in when we celebrate holloween! The simple answer to this whole thing is for PECO to simply fix the power. I absolutely cannot believe that it should in this day and age take more than 24 hours to fix power to an entire community! My job dictates that I have exactly 4 hours to bring back any first level server application downed due to a disaster. If I don't I am fired. The whole problem is that the PECO employees from Pennsylvania are in New Jersey helping them restore power. Now I'm not against helping them. I just think we should restore the power to Pennsylvania residents first. Then we should help our neighbors. Unfortunately thousands of us in Watminster are suffering without electricity and withoit heat with all of our food spoiling while Pennsylvania PECO employees help everyone else. I am so beside myself with anger over PECO and now some joker wants to change Halloween. Well i say no way. Halloween stays on October 31st and PECO...fix my power! We should all refuse to pay them for one month just to pay them back for our children having to sit in the dark and sleep. In the cold. PECO SUCKS!

I can't believe some of the comments I'm reading. After one of the worst weather disasters we've ever had, people are worrying about inconveniences to their personal schedules? Can you fathom how many trees and wires are down and how unsafe it would be for all of the people in those neighborhoods to be traipsing around? Do you comprehend the sheer amount of work PECO has to do and their very valid commitment to return service to hospitals and emergency response personnel before private homes? Kudos to Warminster township for putting safety above the petty demands of the ignorant and the entitled.

Christine makes a valid point. We just went thru a major storm, we have no power, and you're worried about Halloween ? It's a matter of safety. How can you possibly walk thru these neighborhoods with no lights? How will you know which houses to go to (not everyone gives out treats) ? Which is more important - the candy count, or your child's safety ?

As far as the rescheduling is concerned, I get the sense that the day is more important than the time. Yes, it would be wise to go out during daylight hours.

But more importantly, we should be trick-or-treating on Saturday rather than today, to ensure that our kids will be able to see the houses they're visiting, and not have to worry about tripping over fallen trees and electrical wires.

Kudos to the town supervisor, and to PECO. Do the math, and you'll see that they're restoring power to thousands of customers per HOUR.

I have three children who watched our transformer blow up in our yard from hurricane sandy. We along with 7.4 million people have no power and no heat. I am very happy that my children will be able to go trick or treating safely on Saturday afternoon. Some people are selfish and ignorant. Keeping children safe is the most important thing. As for peco they are extremely overwhelmed, maybe instead of complaining about them you could vulenteer your in the disaster relief.

I think the change of date is perfectly acceptable but scheduling a precise time when kids have to go out is a little ridiculous. Why should we all go out 2-5 that's unfair and crazy. Halloween is supposed to be scary and fun and the night time just adds to the fun of it.

This should probably be a breaking new alert in an email. It's a shame it isn't in the paper.

Well, kids trick-or-treating on our street tonight will have a rough time of it.

Once the sun goes down, it's nearly pitch black. House lights will be off, so it's your guess as to whether anyone is home. And if there is someone home, they may not choose to open the door, since they won't be able to see you on their porch.

There are lines (cable, phone, possibly electrical) on the sidewalks and lawns. Not to mention thousands of branches strewn everywhere. Next to my house, there's a very large hole where a tree pulled its roots out of the ground. You'll want to avoid falling into that.

I just don't think sat 2-5 is a fair time. I have two children who will be at a football/cheerleading till 5 so they will miss Halloween all together. We have 6 children and we will all be at the game as a family so none of them will be able to participate on sat. I will allow my children to go out tonight and we will play it safe. The last time I checked the calendar, Saturday is November 3rd, not October 31st. So if anyone shows up on Saturday, they will be turned away. Who is the township to tell us that they moved Halloween to Saturday. What’s next, are they going to tell us to celebrate Christmas in July, because the weather is better for travel... If you are concerned about the kids, just keep them home tonight, and then explain to them that it was just unsafe in your neighborhood. fortunately, our neighborhood has no damage from the hurricane, and the kids will be out in full force tonight (HALLOWEEN).

Do you people not want to take your kids around, or do you just value your weekends that much? Heh. Most people are without power all over the place. There are downed trees and power lines everywhere. Come on!

We just got power again in the Delmont area of Warminster. That said, it's still not very safe for kids wandering around at night... There are downed cables on the sidewalk, branches everywhere, and a large tree landed on a nearby SUV, shattering the windows sending glass everywhere.

When something changes like this, esp at the last minute, I feel it would be helpful to have this also posted on the Warminster township site, and send out little announcements with the mail carriers. I have lived here for 3 years, and just randomly heard about this site by accident. Otherwise, I'd have had no idea trick or treating was changed. Just a suggestion for the future, should something need to be announced to the residents.

Is anyone more concerned about our kids safety! Other then complaints of getting n receiving candy. Its not just Warminster, but other counties making this change to give our kids the chance to just be a kid! I love the fact that adults show their child side of their hearts along with the little one's! Halloween has nothing to do with Peco or just selfishness. Let kids be kids n be safe about it!

The safety of our children is foremost. Yes, Halloween is important to the kids. But more important is their safety. I can't even walk down my street without encountering debris which could trip me. What would a little kid in a costume and costume shoes do? I saw kids out tonight despite the re-scheduling. Interesting that it was the usual groups of teens. They started at 6 pm. Usually the teens don't come out till 8 pm. It is normally the very little ones that start early. And I didn't see any of them tonight. Hope to see them Sat. 2/3 of the residents are w/o power. Some have had trees crash through their house. How can anyone be worried about Halloween and candy when so many are dealing with this devastation and disruption to their lives. How rude to go to that person's house to ask for candy at this time. They made a decision based on safety. That's all. There was not time to hold a meeting to make a decision which could accommodate everyone's preferences. They did what they they could do in the short time available to them, with the safety of all in mind.There are people right in this township, county, state and tri+states whose whole lives have been changed forever.

I can't believe I'm reading some of these comments. If you really felt adamant about taking your kids out on 10/31 I hope you did just that. As for the township changing it till Saturday I think that was a good decision. We just got power back last night. The other side of the street hasn't been that lucky. Many are without power. 6 small children did come to my door. I happily gave them candy. They couldn't do it on Saturday and that's fine with me that they came.
You would think with all the devastation around us that you wouldn't have time to complain about a township moving the date for safety. If you were lucky and nothing happened at your house then how about volunteering some time to help someone who wasn't as lucky. Many have trees to remove, debris to clean up and many are without power.
As for complaining that PECO isn't moving fast enough do you realize these men and women are on mandatory 16 hour days. They are exhausted! No scheduled time off, no vacations, no sick days are allowed. How about getting them a coffee instead of bashing these hard working people.

I agree Ms. Brancato. I was dismayed reading comments about their children having sports, etc and will not be able to trick-or-treat. Life is full of compromises, at least for most it is, adjustments are made, how selfish of some to complain while most are pleased the Township is concerned for the children's safety, which obviously, their parents are not.

Complaining about PECO is ridiculous. The storm covered a large area, many that are still in the dark and will be for days to come. Trees down, wires down and PECO is supposed to be out in the midst of a hurricane/tropical storm repairing the wires so some selfish folks have their power back. Amazing the ignorance of some.
They should go and offer their help to others instead of sitting on their butts whining. Look around the Township, many trees still down, just because one neighborhood is fine, does not mean another neighborhood is. I certainly am glad that none of these whiners are my neighbors. Our neighborhood has pulled together, sharing generators, food, whatever it takes to get us all through this safely.

I am amazed that so many people are crazy bitter over trick or treating in the afternoon! For goodness sakes, get a grip. I lost power for 4 days and while Saturday afternoon would not have been my first choice, it's all about the kids safety. Really? Count your blessings and buck up. Considering what many of us have been through, I will happily great kids for a few hours .. I could use a smile!

We had Halloween today from 2-5 and it went extremely well. We had many more kids come around (especially little ones) and it was great to see all the kids dressed up and happy. It was a nice break from the all the chaos that occurred this week.
