Warminster Begins Streamlined Recycling Program
Under the new program, residents can now combine all of their recyclable material into one container.
Recycling day may have become a little bit easier for Warminster residents.
When the township supervisors re-upped their waste management contract with J.P. Mascaro & Sons, they entered into a single-stream recycling program.
Now, Warminster residents can place all recyclable materials into one container, instead of separating them into separate crates. If you are using a larger trash can for the recyclables, place a clearly visible, township-provided sticker on the container.
Under the new agreement, a percentage of the tonnage recycled goes back to the township waste management expense.
The following items can be included in the streamlined recycling container:
- Aluminum cans
- Aluminum foil (please rinse food products)
- Metal lids
- Glass bottles and jars (please rinse food products)
- Plastic soda bottles
- Water bottles
- Plastic milk and juice cartons (not the paper cartons)
- Shampoo bottles
- Detergent containers
- Ketchup, mustard, salad dressing bottles (please rinse food products)
- Yogurt and Margarince containers (please rinse food products)
- Newspapers
- Magazines
- Cardboard boxes (break down boxes)
- Cereal boxes
- Tissue boxes
- Phone books
- Wrapping paper
DO NOT recycle the following:
- Ceramics
- Dishes
- Coffee cups
- Drinking glasses
- Glass ovenware
- Window glass
- Mirrors
- Lightbulbs
- Plastic bags
- Styrofoam
- Bubble wrap
- Tissue or paper towels
- Books or toys
Nothing else has changed in regards to Warminster's waste collection program. All trash days, recycling days and yard waste service days remain the same. Residents are permitted a maximum of six containers of trash per collection day and one bulk item (i.e. sofa, TV, water heater) on the second collection day of the week. Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioning and dehumidifiers contain freon and need special handling by calling (800) 432-1616.

It's about time! Moved to Warminster 3 years ago from Abington. Abington has had this program for 5 years now. Makes recycling so much easier!

Mark, you did an excellent job with this information about recycling. Great video.

I'm thrilled... But could someone explain the "plastic bags" exclusion? Most plastic bags are clearly marked with a /2\. For years, I've been stuffing plastic bags into each other, and marking the outermost one with a large /2\ in magic marker, and they've been picking them up. Are they just trying to keep people from putting "loose" bags into the pails, perhaps?

Can't watch video at this time, so it may give more info, but article doesn't seem to mention where to get the "Township provided" sticker that has to be on the container(s). We normally put out at least one on our recycling day now, so I'm hoping they will allow us to have more than one sticker. Are they sending them to us with this information, or do we have to go somewhere to pick it up?

You should have received it in the mail. If you didn't, you can go to the township building and pick it up. They have several stickers in stock, you should be able to get more than one.

Mark you are a great spokesman for a good cause. In the end I hope the Township gets a good bit of money back from recycling.

The township's website still has the old brochure for trash. Maybe someone from the township sees this and can update the "trash information brochure" link with the latest brochure.

What is the purpose of the sticker? It's usually pretty easy to distinguish pails of garbage from pails of recyclables. FWIW, I don't believe we got one of these stickers either.

How would you distinguish the garbage from the recyclables if they are in the same color trash cans and have lids on them?

If you have duplicate cans with lids (as we do) you put the sticker on the can with the recyclables. If you don't have one, call 215-443-5414 and ask Kim for one or two.

Fair enough... The pail we use for recyclables has no lid. It's an old pail, with a few small holes in the bottom, so if it rains, it doesn't collect among the glass and plastic. So it's obvious at a glance that it's used for recyclables. I'll take Richard's advice and call for a sticker.
