Warminster Deserves a Better Future

I didn't grow up in this beautiful area, I myself grew up in Trevose, but had several friends of the family who owned homes up here that we always visited. I remember the land how beautiful it was, the people how friendly and loving. That stuck with me so much that when I was a teen I specifically made it a goal to move up here and be among the love.

I remember how people who didn't live here would refer to this place as the place that the rich lived, it was so very close to Willow Grove Amusement Park, which we went to almost every weekend. It had farms, and the trees up here were so amazing. Our own little county, you could drive through and see the beautiful leaves changing without having to go to the mountains.

But now, how times have changed, don't get me wrong this area is still beautiful, the trouble with it is how commercialized it's become. How those in charge have let this area become just like others, homes that are a menace not being cited, allowing not one but two CVS's into the area (oh like we really need two). I mean, really! Then, the smaller businesses whose owners used to take pride in the places have now jumped on board the crap wagon, not all but some.

I walk into some places (mostly one and it serves food) and they have cardboard thrown on the floor for the employees to walk on. Umm, did you ever hear of mats? But they don't get cited because the BOH does not make impromptu visits.

But I digress, the idea as one individual stated is to take back our area, take it away from the dirty, the filthy-mouthed children and the parents who own these children. Take it back, people, really.

Our community is beautiful and with the right guidance and right individuals running it we could be so very successful and profitable and so very abundant.

The elderly people who lived in this community can't do this because the younger people do not allow them to, the younger don't care, it's us in the middle who have not only the ability but the common sense to step up and take action.

Just like with the election, which I am so sure everyone is getting tired of everyone's opinions, but think, our community should have people in it who care, people who want this place to remain one of the best places to live, not lazy ass people who sit and will just be yes men.

Come back to the reality that, yes, communities progress, but do we need to leave the beauty, common sense and integrity behind? I say no, there are so many beautiful homes, business, people here so lets take it back and preserve it!

Bring forth a bond referendum to purchase Bucks Landing and tear it down. The Police that now spend a majority of their time policing that area can adopt a community policing model. Even though we add more cops every year, I have never seen one patrolling my neighborhood.

I agree! In previous years it seems that one could count on the police force (and i mean most of them) being at a specific house on fir street. I mean really do you need them all there at one time? It used to be a joke a long time ago that if you wanted a cop go to a donut shop, well i wonder were they are hiding now?

I do believe Warminster could have been a beautiful place to be. I am a world traveler, living in Warminster, and everytime I live on vacation, I don't want to come back. Europe has a sense of community, and great architecture, farm land is preserved and protected, industrial areas don't belong in home communities, but in Warminster, and in some areas of the United States, this concept went out the window, business and money had a big say on all of this, and the township thought it would be okay in those early days of allowing industry to take over the town, that it would be nice for tax revenue. The sad part of all of this is, we don't even have a nice middle of town plaza or accesible park for the community to mingle, and know each other. Instead, we have to drive all the way to the Warminster Park to have a nice place if you could call that nice park, to have a nice area to mingle. Instead, we don't have sidewalks, and our streets are not pedestrian friendly, they look like highways. The buildings and businesses are ugly, the shopping centers look like squares, and there is no sense of beauty in town. I love towns like Doylestown and New Hope, even some areas of the city in Philly have better views, but here, Warminster needs to demolish the whole town and start all over.

About one and a half years ago I quit smoking cigarettes. Since then this thought keeps reoccurring to me. If you want to change something; the first step is to start doing something. Complaining about it or making excuses don't change anything.
Another thing I've noticed is that it is easier to see the negative things around us, and not focus on the positive. People always tell me what a horrible disgusting place Philadelphia would be to live. If you have truly explored the city you would find some very nice places to live. As one of the working poor people in America I can attest to the fact there are not enough decent places for us to live. Developers rarely seem to interested in building reasonably priced low income housing.

I am a 20 year warminster resident. Bucks Landing was here way before my time here and wasn't any better back then (Ashwood Apartments). Warminster Heights was here since the 1940's and used to be far worse than today. So, besides commercialism and stores (which people want), what has changes so drastically for the worse in our town?

We couldn't even pass a referendum to build a park what makes you think we are going to pass one to buy up housing? I agree with Joe. The parts of Warminster you complain about have been there all along and actually have improved.
