Wood Wins Warminster Challenge Cup, Championship Season for Warriors

  • Archbishop Wood defeated crosstown rival William Tennent 6-3 last week at the Bucks County Ice Sports Center, maintaining control of the Warminster Challenge Cup for the sixth consecutive year. First period goals by seniors Patrick Cavanaugh and Troy Potts gave the Vikings the early 2–0 lead. Panther standouts PJ Partington and Andrew Bean netted two goals in the second period and knotted the game at 2. Two more goals put the Vikings lead back at two at the end of the second period. At 4:15 of the third period, Tennent’s PJ Partington scored to bring the Panthers back within one.  Goals by Cavanaugh and Jonathon Pflugfelder in less than a minute apart put the game away for Archbishop Wood.
  • The Warminster Warriors, coached by Bill Hontz, clinched first place in the Philadelphia Area Girls Soccer (PAGS) U15 Division 3 when they shut out the Harford FCD United with a final score of 2–0 in the championship game on Nov. 10. The team finished the PAGS fall season with a record of 8-0-1. The Warriors also were PAGS champions in the U14 Division 6 in 2012 and U13 Division 7 in 2011.
  • William Tennent is hosting a Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 7 between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. The cost is $9 for children, $5 for adults. Bring a letter with a self-addressed, stamped envelope and Santa will write back.
