Dogs Take a Walk to Fight Cancer

Now in its 14th year, the Paws4Liife dog walk attracts hundreds of dogs and their owners to raise money to fight cancer.

Hundreds of people, and their dogs, came out to Veterans Park in Warminster on Saturday morning to support Gilda’s Club for the 14th annual PAWS4LIFE Dog Walk.

Gilda’s Club is free cancer support group in Delaware Valley that helps to support men, women, and children living with any type of cancer.

“This is the most dogs that we have had pre-registered with more than 135,” said Kelly Harris, CEO of Gilda’s Club. “With walk-ins, we hoped to get over 200 dogs. We have about 500 people out and this one of our biggest events of the year.“

The event featured a dog walk around the park, demonstrations, food, free products, and a fun family atmosphere throughout the day. In the past, the event has raised thousands of dollars, with the proceeds going to help families in need.

Stroehmann was the event's title sponsor for the third consecutive year, and many other community sponsors also came out to support the event, Harris said.

"Ninety-nice cents on every dollar raised stays in our local community to support local families living with cancer," Harris said. "In the past, we have raised as much as $58,000 in one year, and we hope to get to that."

Gilda’s Club is named after comedienne Gilda Radner, whose career was cut short when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Radner passed away in 1989 but her dream lives on. After her death, Gilda’s husband Gene Wilder, and Joanna Bull and many of her friends founded the support group in her memory.

The first club opened in 1995 and they soon spread throughout the country. In 1998, a group of dedicated volunteers decided to bring Gilda’s Club to the Delaware Valley.

What a terrific event -- beautiful weather, happy dogs, and a lot of love and support for Gilda's ... here's hoping everyone takes a moment to spread the word about Gilda's Club to some friends and family in the Delaware Valley (and if you've never been to the Clubhouse, think about taking a free Red Door Tour: http://ckpcreative.com/_gilda/gcdv-reddoor.html) ... meanwhile, here are some more photos from Saturday: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151269787466341.512572.510001340&type=1&l=6e9e2b39f4
