Five Things for Jan. 17-21

A look ahead at some notable events this week.

Here's a quick look at what's going on around Warminster this week:

  • Ann's Choice residents and local girl scouts are spending their Martin Luther King, Jr. Day writing letters to soldiers overseas. The cards that will be created will be placed in care packages which will be sent to troops through “Operation Gratitude."
  • On Tuesday, William Tennent High School invites spaghetti-lovers to enjoy a pasta dinner that will raise money for Landon Vargas, 4-year-old son of teacher Ariel Vargas. Landon has been diagnosed with sarcoma cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. The dinner runs from 6-9 p.m. and cost $10 for adults, $5 students and $2 for children under 5. Reserve tickets by e-mailing obriri@centennialsd.org and paying at the door.
  • The Warminster Township Planning Committee will meet on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Click here for an agenda.
  • On Thursday, McDonald Elementary hosts a public astronomy night in its special experience room. Gems of the Winter Sky will take place at 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Admission is free, but the school urges those interested to arrive at least 10 minutes early due to limited seating.
  • Warminster Parks and Recreation is accepting nominations for the Edward A. Jefferies Memorial Award until Feb. 11. Named for a former Parks & Rec member who died from cancer in 1995, the memorial honors residents who actively promote leisure and recreational activities for township residents of all ages.
