What's going on around town today.

  • Students and parents of were out in full force at the 17th Annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service, helping Cradles to Crayons – the area nonprofit that provides everyday essentials to children, from birth to age 12, living in low-income and/or homeless situations in the five-county southeastern Pennsylvania area – collect and sort donated clothing, school supplies, toys and books for distribution to area children in need.
  • The bowling team travels to Harry S. Truman High School for a 3 p.m. match.
  • Forecasters are calling for sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 40s.
  • The U.N. Security Council will take up a draft resolution this week that calls on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down and transfer power, CNN reports.
  • On this day, January 30, 1969, The Beatles made their last public performance, on the roof of Apple Records in London. The impromptu concert is broken up by the police.
