Five Things for November 18

What's going on around town today.

  • will be hosting its starting at 6:30 p.m. tonight. Admission to the large craft fair is two dollars.
  • A man caused a location yesterday evening. The bomb unit was called out and searched the man's white sedan. In the end, no explosives were found. The man was taken into police custody.
  • Today's forecast calls for sunny skies! Daytime temperatures are not expected to reach above 40 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
  • Drama ensued last night when the Occupy Philadelphia group began to move their encampment from Dilworth Plaza to Thomas Paine Plaza after they were evicted from Dilworth due to impending construction. Police told the group they could not stage at Thomas Paine Plaza. The members of Occupy Philadelphia were told by police they could not move to Thomas Paine Plaza because no permit have been approved, Philly.com reported. Earlier in the evening, 24 Occupy Philadelphia protesters were taken into custody during a protest at the Market Street Bridge.
  • On this day, November 18, 1918, daylight saving time was introduced to the nation. Daylight saving time and time zones all owe their existence to the national rail network. The rail companies created the time systems to keep trains running on schedule.
