Gilda's Club Celebrates the Holidays

The Warminster-based cancer support community welcomed Santa Claus and Hanukkah Harry Saturday morning.

More than 60 children and their families came together at the Delaware Valley chapter of Gilda's Club in Warminster Saturday morning to celebrate the holidays.

The annual treat featured plenty of pancakes, french toast and bacon to go around, along with fun activities such as gingerbread man decorating. At 10:30 a.m., Santa Claus and Hanukkah Harry arrived via escort courtesy of the Ivyland Police Department. Each child said hello to the jolly visitors and walked away with their own gift.

Gilda's Club Delaware Valley celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2013. The organization was founded shortly after the death of legendary comedienne Gilda Radner from ovarian cancer. According to the group's website, she began visiting cancer support groups and expressed her dream of creating a strong support network around the country.

She died in 1989 before she could make that dream come true, but her friends and family worked to make it happen, establishing the first Gilda's Club in New York in 1995.
