Hartsville Fire Camp Ends with Simulation

The teenaged cadets tried out the hoses and equipment during a training exercise at the York Road fire company.

The Hartsville Fire Company's summer firefighter camp ended on July 17 with the annual fire simulation.

Fifteen cadets, ages between 14 and 16 years, climbed on two trucks and ran through a simulated fire emergency at the fire station on York Road. They pulled hoses, plugged into a fire hydrant and wore breathing apparatuses under the guidance of the senior firefighter trainers.

If the cadets decide that the volunteer firefighter life is for them, they can enter the junior program at the closest station to their homes, according to Deputy Fire Chief Joe Mullelly.
