Ivyland Memorial Day Parade Continues Tradition

Residents lined up on the streets of the small borough to cheer on the fire department and marching band.

For as long as anyone can remember the small borough of Ivyland, with about 1,000 residents, has held a Memorial Day parade. This year was no different.

Police, along with members of the William Tennent Marching Band, the children of Ivyland, supporters of historic Craven Hall and members of Ivyland’s fire company took to the small borough’s streets to march in honor of Memorial Day.

“It’s always a great community parade,” said District Justice Daniel J.Finello.

More than 100 people, mostly residents of the borough, came out to enjoy the parade.

“(The parade) goes up and down all four of Ivyland’s East and West Streets,” said Tony Judice, who has helped plan the parade for more than 30 years.

“This has been a great community event for years,“ he added.

“My dad's got 84 years of coming to see the parade. He can’t see it anymore, but he’s still here,” said Jery Degideo, whose lived in Ivyland since birth.

Judice said every year he invites all of Ivyland’s children to decorate their bikes and ride along the parade route. This year at the end of the parade they all got popsicles to eat.

Finello, whose father served in World War II, urged others to make every day Memorial Day and honor those who have served to keep America free.
