Regional Roundup: Cat Rescue and Golf's Top Amateurs

: A cat that was discovered at the bottom of an abandoned well on Church Street was rescued Thursday morning and appears to be unhurt. But staff at the Bucks County SPCA say the cat, whom they have nicknamed "Lucky" will not be made available for a typical adoption.The grey and white tabby is feral and is "not a good candidate" to become a household pet, Kathy Myron told Doylestown Patch. The SPCA is looking for the right kind of new home for the cat, she said.

With a unanimous vote, the Centennial Operations Committee approved a plan that will allow the district to seek local non-profit organizations that will accept donated classroom furniture from Stackpole and Longstreth when the buildings are closed. The measure will now go before the school board at the June 12 meeting.

: Welcoming. That’s the atmosphere of Hatboro-Horsham High School, according to Lisa Friedlander, project director for the No Place for Hate campaign at the Anti-Defamation League. “No Place For Hate is about a feeling that the students and staff create,” Friedlander said. “No Place For Hate means that everyone will feel safe and accepted when they walk in those doors.”

: Lower Southampton Elementary students recently participated in the school's first "Race for Education." According to the school district's website, sponsors of this "health and wellness" experience for students helped raise $26,900. This money will allow Lower Southampton Elementary to purchase additional Smart Boards for its classrooms.

Luke Edward Bonhage has pled guilty to charges stemming from an incident last December where a 19-year-old girl was found dead on the couch of his parent’s Dennis Road home. According to authorities, the girl died following an adverse reaction to prescription drugs given to her by Bonhage. 

: Bensalem High School students Zachary Hizer, Brittany Nettles, Joseph Nieves-Markee and Kayla Walker were honored by the Rotary Club of Bensalem for being the May’s students of the month.

:Fire crews battled a Bristol blaze that injured at least two people, according to reports. The fire happened at a home located at 1505 Miller Avenue shortly before 12 p.m. Thursday. At least two people were treated with smoke inhalation, according to reports. The extent of their injuries and their identities were not immediately known.  

: The Council Rock School District has reached a tentative three-year agreement with the Council Rock Education Association (CREA) and the Council Rock Education Support Professionals Association (CRESPA).

: For the first time in 53 years, Huntingdon Valley Country Club is the main stage for the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Amateur Championship. It hosts the Association’s most prominent and rigorous tournament June 12-14 & 16.
