Civil War Era Music

Commonwealth Speaker, Musician, and Instrument Maker Tom Jolin to Play Civil War Era Music at the Warminster Township Free Library

Warminster (October 24) – The Warminster Township Free Library will host the Commonwealth Speaker, Musician, and Instrument Maker Tom Jolin, who will perform “Civil War Era Music” on Wednesday, October 24 at 7 p.m.  The presentation is free of charge and open to the public. Call the Library Reference Desk 215-672-4362 to register for this event.

Tom Jolin plays Civil War era music and has produced eight recordings. He has been a solo performer since 1978, playing the hammered dulcimer, banjo, button accordion, and harmonica.  The trauma of the Civil War inspired a tremendous amount of music.  Jolin performs songs about soldiers’ lives, domestic scenes, minstrel traditions, and the fight to end slavery.  He also discusses the origins of the songs and the instruments.  Audience participation is encouraged.  Appropriate for all ages, his performances are loaded with humor…sometimes intentionally.
