Victoria Johnson was inspired to write "The Lemonade Standoff" after a trip to her grandmother's house.

The book publishing world can be a tough business, filled with rejection letter after rejection letter. Would-be authors can spend years submitting manuscripts that don't get picked up.

So it's understandable if struggling writers get a little jealous when they hear about Victoria Johnson, a seventh grader at who has authored a new children's book, called The Lemonade Standoff.

"I've been writing short stories ever since I learned how to write," said Victoria. "I just love exploring my imagination and creativity."

Victoria came up with the idea in 2009 while drinking a glass of sweet lemonade at her grandmother's house in Willow Grove. Her parents, Alphonso and April, submitted the story, along with a few others, to Tate Publishing in 2010, and a representative picked The Lemonade Standoff for publication.

The story follows two young girls, Keenah and Shay, who want to spend the summer selling lemonade. They think it will be relaxing, enjoyable endeavor until one of their rivals sets up her own stand.

Even though she has cleared an important hurdle in the book publishing race, Victoria has no intention of slowing down.

"I think I want to turn it into a series," she said. "Maybe do one for each season. I really like these characters and I want to do more with them."
