Video: 'Dancin' on Air' Returns to Philly Airwaves

The premiere of the updated version of the dance competition show was held at the Fuge in Warminster on Saturday night.

Before there was Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance, Dancin' on Air was a favorite stop on the local TV dial for viewers to catch a glimpse of favorites stars such as Madonna, Will Smith and New Kids on the Block. Filmed at and broadcast on WPHL, the show started in the fall of 1981 and was soon picked up for syndication and renamed Dance Party USA until it left the air in 1987.

More than 30 years after its first broadcast, Dancin' on Air has returned to the airwaves and will be aired on PHL17 Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. This time, a bulk of the episodes will be filmed at the building that housed the Johnsville centrifuge, nicknamed the Fuge.

In celebration of the first episode, a premiere party was held at the Fuge on Saturday night. Check out the footage courtesy of Metra4.com.
