Words Inspire Young Warminster Writers

YWCA teen youth journaling group publishes book.

Inspiration is expressed in many forms. Recently a group of young girls found their inspirations published in a book entitled, “Words from the Heart."

The group of girls called, “The Bucks Landing Teen Girls” was a collaborative journaling project inspired by local writer and YWCA member Linda Wisniewski and YWCA Group Leader, Debbie Nelson.

This first-time project offered girls between the ages of 12 and 17 who reside in Bucks Landing in Warminster the opportunity to see their writings in print.

An example of one of the book's published entry:

“The person I admire in my family is my mom … because I know she will always be with me no matter what.  And because she’s always the one who will be taking me to the doctor if I’m sick.  And always the one who is taking me to school if I miss the bus.  And whenever I have a problem, she will always be the one who I will tell because she will always understand.”

And another:

“When I was young, my mom and her best friend had a Halloween party.  It was so much fun.  I was bobbing for apples and then my two loose front teeth came out.  I was so scared and started to cry.”

Each girl chose a few pieces of their work for publication and received a copy of the finished book.

Jazmine Paches, 14, said she loves writing. What's her favorite genre?  "Science Fiction is facinating," stated Jazmine.

Michelle Mota, 12, said she loves to write in her diary when she has free time and her favorite books to read are romance novels.

The Bucks Landing Teen Girls group is part of six teen groups organized by the Bucks County YWCA. Teen groups are open to the public to students ages 12 through 17. Most meet weekly throughout the school year and the summer with guest speakers, activities and oppportunities to learn goal oriented and life skills.

Funding for this program was provided by Warrington's Bux-Mont Unitarian Universalist Fellowship through their Care/Share program.
