Menchie's Frozen Yogurt Shop Opens in Warminster

Customers can help themselves to a large variety of flavors and toppings to create their own frosty dishes.

With temperatures approaching the 90s for the past few weeks, Monday's opening of the new Menchie's Frozen Yogurt shop has created a new escape from the heat in Warminster. Located at the Center Point Shopping Center, 872 W. Street Rd., near Subway, the self-serve style store allows guests, as owners Kat and Todd Hauben like to call their customers, to create their own, unique combinations of flavors and toppings.

When the Haubens began looking for franchise opportunities, there was an endless amount of options from which to choose. When they came across the Menchie's program, they were immediately drawn to the company's philosophy and approach to customer service.

"We wanted to do something that would put a smile on people's faces," said Kat. "Menchie's creates such an open environment for the whole family, where you can feel comfortable and treated well by the staff. We want you to feel like you are part of the community when you come in those doors."

Here's how it works: You start by grabbing a bowl, either with or without a waffle cone, and fill it with one or more yogurt flavors with names like Birthday Cake, Chocolate-covered Banana, Peanut Butter or Vanilla Snow. The yogurt comes from hormone-free cows and include plenty of non-fat, low sugar, low carb and gluten-free selections. There are also sorbets for the lactose intolerant to enjoy. Small paper cups are available for free sampling.

"The lineup will change about every week," said Hauben. "We'll keep a close eye on what our guests like and don't like and let them tell us what to keep."

Once you have your one, two or three yogurts ready in the bowl, it's time to move on to the toppings, which vary from classics like sprinkles and chocolate chips, to some unusual offerings such as Cap'n Crunch cereal and sour gummy worms. Don't worry, plenty of fresh fruit and nuts are up for grabs to create a healthier snack.

When your creation is complete, all that's left is to weigh and pay. The rate is .49 cents per ounce, plus $1 if you have a waffle cone. The Haubens also offer ten-percent off the price of yogurt for anybody in uniform, which includes police, fire, military, and also soccer and baseball uniforms.

The summer hours for Menchies are Sun.-Thurs. 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Fri.-Sat. 11 a.m. to midnight.

The soft opening (no pun intended) gives the owners and staff enough time to work out any kinks before the week-long grand opening celebration that begins Saturday, July 21 with a ribbon cutting ceremony and free yogurt between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. ( limit one 8 ounce cup per guest). The rest of the week inckudes the following specials:
