Walmart Black Friday Sales Start During Thanksgiving

The department store announced special discount sales beginning at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

Patch readers upset about the early arrival of Santa Claus at local shopping malls may have more to complain about after Walmart executives released plans to hold Black Friday sales beginning at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

Until recently, the biggest shopping day of the year traditionally stuck to its Friday schedule, usually opening doors to the discount hungry crowd around 5 a.m. or 6 a.m.

However, recent years have seen the Black Friday sales creep closer to Thanksgiving, a day many regard as solely reserved for family gatherings. Doors began opening at midnight and, in some cases, late Thursday night.

According to a press release from Walmart, customers who are in designated lines between 6 and 7 p.m. or 8 and 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28 can purchase specially marked gifts at low prices during a One-Hour Guarantee sale. The 21 items marked for discount include:

  • Vizio 60-inch LED HDTV for $688 (a $310 savings)
  • Apple iPad mini Wi-Fi 16GB (two colors) for $299 with a $100 Walmart gift card
  • Funai 32-inch LED HDTV for $98
  • Furby Boom! for $29 (a $30 savings)
  • HP Pavillion TouchSmart Laptop for $278
  • Call of Duty Ghosts (Xbox 360 and Playstation 3) for $39.96 (a $20 savings)
  • LG Blu-ray Player for $38
“Black Friday is our day – our Super Bowl – and we’re ready to prove once again that no one does it better than Walmart,” said Bill Simon, president and CEO, Walmart U.S. in a statement “We’re excited to give our customers an incredible Black Friday with shopping hours that will allow them to take advantage of great prices on Thanksgiving night and all weekend long.”

Walmart is located at 100 E. Street Road in Warminster.
