Rotary Club of Doylestown Honors Individuals for Service to Community at 5th Annual Four-Way Test Breakfast - $23,600 in grants awarded to twelve community organizations

The Rotary Club of Doylestown honored six members of the community at its 5th Annual Four-Way Test Breakfast on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Doylestown Country Club.

This year the breakfast recognized five adult honorees and one student from Central Bucks High School East for their dedication to community service and their application of the Four-Way Test in their lives and work. In addition to the six honorees, twelve community organizations were recognized and awarded grants totaling $23,600.

The Four-Way Test Award honorees included: Joseph Brosnan, Ed.D., president of Delaware Valley College, receiving the Education Award; Marne Kies Dietterich, founder of Wrapping Presence®, receiving the Not-for-Profit Award; Jeffrey Kennedy, Lieutenant, Doylestown Fire Company, receiving the Community Award; Bridget Wingert, editor, Bucks County Herald, receiving the Business Award; and Arthur Giddings, longtime volunteer at Doylestown, receiving the Healthcare Award. Emma Rosenthal, a senior at Central Bucks High School East, was also recognized based on recommendations, her community service work and an essay she submitted that addressed an ethical problem where the principles of the Four Way Test were applied. Emma will attend Muhlenberg College in the fall, where she will study media communications and creative writing.

Representatives of twelve local non-profit organizations were also on hand to receive Rotary grants of up to $3,000 each to meet an outstanding need within the communities they serve. The Rotary grants recipients included: The Ann Silverman Health Clinic; Camp Discovery Inc.; Community Conservatory; Bucks County Conservation District; Central Bucks Family YMCA; County Theater; Doylestown Fire Company No. 1; Doylestown Post 175, Veterans of Foreign Wars; Doylestown’s Youth Fishing Program; Mercer Museum, Bucks County Historical Society; Peaceful Living; and ShelterBox USA.

The Four-Way Test has been used by Rotarians for over sixty years as a guideline for moral and ethical standards in business, community and personal affairs. The Four Way test asks four questions of the things we think, say or do - Is it the Truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned? These questions have been used by Rotarians for over sixty years as guidelines for moral and ethical standards in business, community and personal affairs.
