Archbishop Chaput Installed as Head of Archdiocese of Philadelphia

The new archbishop promises to 'restore the hearts of our faithful.'

Noting in his homily the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is "facing very serious challenges," Archbishop Charles J. Chaput was installed as the archdiocese's new leader during an afternoon Mass on Thursday at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. (Source)

About 1,700 people attended, according to a story by the Catholic News Service. Thearchdiocese and local news stations also offered live streaming of the Mass on their respective websites.

Chaput replaces Cardinal Justin Rigali, who resigned months after a new chapter  in the long story of the sexual abuse scandal that has rocked the Church.

The Catholic News Service article quotes Chaput as promising that "no bishop will try harder to help persons who have been hurt by the sins of the past. And no bishop will work harder to strengthen and encourage my brother priests and to restore the hearts of our faithful."
