What's going on around town today.

  • The boys’ finals for Centennial’s March Madness three-on-three tournament will take place today at 4 p.m. at Stackpole Elementary, with Leary taking on the team from Stackpole.
  • Philadelphia 76er Jrue Holliday will appear at the 263 Marketplace to sign autographs from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The cost is $15 per item.
  • A network executive told the Associated Press that Katie Couric plans to leave her post as anchor of the CBS Evening News when her contract expires on June 4. It is rumored she will start a new syndicated talk show in 2012.
  • Congressional leaders will meet with President Obama to continue budget negotiations, CNN reports. Congress has until Friday to enact a budget for the rest of the 2011 fiscal year or face a federal government shutdown. Republican House leaders posted a proposal for a one-week extension of the current continuing resolution, but no votes have been scheduled.
  • On this day, April 5, 1951, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were sentenced to death for committing espionage on the United States for the Soviet Union. They were executed by electric chair on June 19, 1953 at Sing-Sing Correctional Facility in New York.
