What's going on around town today.

  • The Hartsville Fire Company installed the piece of World Trade Center steel into the 9/11 memorial Monday morning, with the help of Wolverton's Welding. Everything is on schedule for the memorial's official unveiling on September 11 at 6 p.m.
  • There's still a 40 percent chance of showers today with a high in the upper 70s, accordinng to the National Weather Service.
  • Money Magazine has named Horsham as No. 31 of the best 100 places to live, Hatboro-HorshamPatch . This year’s nod followed Horsham’s ranking as No. 15 on the magazine’s 2007 list.
  • Builders broke ground on fewer single-family houses in July, leaving home construction at depressed levels, the Associated Press (AP) reports. The Commerce Department told the AP that builders began work on a seasonally adjusted 604,000 homes last month, a 1.5 percent decrease from June. That's half the 1.2 million homes per year that economists say must be built to sustain a healthy housing market.
  • On this day, August 16, 1977, after being discovered on his bathroom floor, Elvis Presley was pronounced dead at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
