What's going on around town today.

  • William Tennent's golf team is hosting its Panther Invitational today at 5 Ponds Golf Course at 10:20 a.m. Teams from Cheltenham, Quakertown and Archbishop Wood also will take the greens for the competition.
  • Registration is open for the second annual Miles for Kyle 5K Run/Walk, taking place at  on Sept. 11 at 7:45 a.m. Early registration for adults cost $25, $5 for children, with proceeds going to the Kyle Quinn Memorial Scholarship.
  • Mostly sunny with a high near 81 today, according to the National Weather Service.
  • Hurricane Irene has formed and is moving over Puerto Rico with its projected path expected to take it toward the U.S. East Coast later this week, the Associated Press (AP) reports. The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami told the AP early Monday that Irene has maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour (120 kilometers per hour). It's centered about 25 miles (40 kilometers) west of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and is moving west-northwest near 12 miles per hour (19 kilometers per hour).
  • On this day, August 22, 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt is the first president to ride in an automobile.
