Five Things for December 8

What's going on around town today.

  • The Olympic-bound Madrigal singers will perform at the Barnes & Noble in Neshaminy as part of the store's Tennnt Night promotion that runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A percentage of purchases during that time will benefit the William Tennent High School library activities.
  • PennDOT is planning some changes to Route 1 and Street Road, Bensalem Patch . Along with widening a six-mile stretch of Route 1, PennDOT officials said both Route 1 ramps from Street Road will be moved away from the Turnpike, from the north to the south side of Street Road, with two new sets of lights installed at each ramp.
  • The rain has stopped for the near future. The National Weather Service says it's going to be mostly cloudy this morning, then gradually clear up, with a high near 45.
  • The Washington Post reports that the Air Force dumped the incinerated partial remains of at least 274 American troops in a Virginia landfill, far more than the military had acknowledged, before halting the secretive practice three years ago, records show.
  • On this day, December 8, 1980, John Lennon is murdered by Mark David Chapman, a mentally unstable fan, in front of The Dakota apartment building in New York City.
