Five Things for February 20

What's going on around town today.

  • Happy Presidents' Day. All Centennial schools and government buildings have off today. Do you have anything special planned?
  • Did you also know that it's the 50th anniversary of John Glenn's historic orbit around Earth? Part of his mission training took place at the NADC in Warminster, where he rode the centrifuge to prepare for launch.
  • Sunny today, with a high near 47, according to the National Weather Service.
  • Bucks County Community College is encouraging writers to enter the Robert Fraser Open Poetry Competition by Wednesday, Feb. 22, Doylestown Patch reports. The contest honors the late director and founder of the Writing Clinic at Bucks County Community College.
  • Also on this day, February 20, 1792, President George Washington signed the Postal Service Act, establishing the United States Post Office Department.
