What's going on around town today.

  • It's country/western night at the 263 Marketplace, tonight at 5 p.m. Come and enjoy some dquare dancing, two-stepping and food from Bobby G's BBQ.
  • Centennial School District is hosting a surplus auction of school supplies and equipment at on Aug. 13 at 9 a.m. Items include kitchen equipment, such as ovens, warmers and refrigeration, and shop tools, including a table saw, band saw and two lathes.
  • Temps will be close to 100, according to the National Weather Service. Do your best to stay cool.
  • The Pentagon is set to certify that the U.S. military is prepared to accept openly gay and lesbian service members, and doing so will not harm military readiness, a U.S. official told CNN. According to the official, who spoke on condition of not being identified, an announcement of that certification -- which is required to repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" policy -- is likely to come Friday.
  • On this day, July 22, 1933, Wiley Post becomes the first person to fly solo around the world, completing the journey in seven days, 18 hours and 45 minutes.
