  • Today is the last day to for the various categories in our Readers' Choice contest.
  • Temperatures cool off a little today, with highs near 87, according to the National Weather Service.
  • President Barack Obama is expected to call on Congress to pass a one-year extension on the Bush-era tax cuts for people earning less than $250,000 a year, CNN reports. A White House official said Obama will make the announcement Monday at the Rose Garden, surrounded by working people.
  • On this day, July 9, 1868, the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution is ratified guaranteeing African Americans full citizenship and all persons in the United States due process of law.
