Five Things for June 10

What's going on around town today.

  • Warminster residents Alberto Saez and Jefrey Duffy received commendations of heroism from police chief Michael Murphy during the board of supervisors meeting Thursday night. The two men responded to sounds of distress during a last month. Upon entering the building, the discovered a wheelchair-bound woman with her hair on fire. After extinguishing the flames, they evacuated her from the building in time for first responders to take her to Abington Memorial Hospital.
  • Craven Hall will host a special tea on Saturday, 1 – 3 p.m.  just for young ladies ages 6 to 11 and their favorite dolls. Cookies, pastries, finger sandwiches, and of course, tea will be served in the splendor of this gracious mansion.  Presentations by period-dressed guides will add to this fun event.   Youngsters can design their own hat, provided by Craven Hall, to wear to the tea.   Colonial games and a craft project are also planned.  And, a special departure gift will be given to each child. The cost of the tea is $20 per child.  Dolls are admitted for free.
  • A reporter from Upper SouthamptonPatch wanted to see if it was hot enough on Thursday to fry an egg on a sidewalk. to see if he was successful.
  • Toyota Motor Corp. forecast that it could lose more than $1 billion in profits in the current fiscal year because of disruptions from the tsunami and earthquake that ravaged Japan in March, CNN reports. Toyota released its forecast Friday for the fiscal 2012, projecting that net profit will drop about $1.6 billion compared to the current year.
  • On this day, June 10, 1967, a cease-fire agreement between Israel and Syra brings and end to the Six-Day War.
