  • Centennial School District currently plans to keep school in session for the full day in spite of the excessive heat warnings and lack of air conditioning in the schools. However, the district has advised parents to prepare for the possibility of early dismissal over the next few days.
  • Warminster's Zoning Hearing Board meets tonight at the township municipal building at 7:30 p.m.
  • Comcast-Spectacor President Peter Luukko acknowledged Tuesday that there are discussions about the future of the Philadelphia 76ers, phillyburbs.com reports. A report first surfaced Tuesday on espn.com indicating New York billionaire Joshua Harris leads a group engaged in “ongoing” negotiations to buy the team.Espn.com called a sale “imminent.”
  • Records show that a fast-moving wildfire that has sent thousands fleeing in eastern Arizona is the second-largest blaze in the history of the state, CNN reports. The so-called Wallow Fire sweeping through Apache National Forest has burned approximately 389,000 acres, Incident commander Joe Reinarz told reporters Tuesday.
  • On this day, June 8, 1949, George Orwell's 1984 is published.
