Five Things for March 29

What's going on around town today.

  • The registration deadline for Nancy’s Tea at Craven Hall has been extended to April 15. The event, named after Nancy Carver, a supporter of Craven Hall who passed away in August 2010, will take place May 15, 3-5 p.m. Tickets cost $30 and attendees will be served finger sandwiches and pastries along with the tea.
  • Parents of children with special needs that are enrolled in Centennial School district are encouraged to attend Wednesday’s S.P.E.C.I.A.L. meeting at 7 p.m. at the administration building. A presentation on cyber-bullying will be conducted by Mike Pesce, education coordinator for Network of Victims Assistance, followed by a resource fair.
  • Harrigan’s Pub at Rosemore Shopping Center kicks off its Big Karaoke Contest tonight at 9 p.m. There will be weekly prizes, culminating in a $500 grand prize.
  • President Obama made his case for military intervention in Libya during a televised address last night at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C., saying, “Some nations may be able to turn a blind eye to atrocities in other countries. The United States of America is different. And as president, I refused to wait for the images of slaughter and mass graves before taking action.”
  • On this day: in 1886, John Stith Pemberton mixed his first batch of Coca-Cola in Atlanta.
