  • PennDOT is for this year’s Great American Cleanup of Pennsylvania, which begins March 1 and runs through May 31. Interested volunteers can find a listing of cleanup events, resources for organizing a cleanup group and other information at www.gacofpa.org
  • Sunny again today, with a high near 42, according to the National Weather Service.
  • Former New York Mets great and Philadelphia Phillie Lenny Dykstra was sentenced Monday to three years in prison after pleading no contest to grand theft auto, CNN reports. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Cynthia Ulfig denied Dykstra's motion to withdraw his plea. He pleaded no contest in October to three counts of grand theft auto and filing a false financial statement.
  • On this day, March 6, 1836, after a thirteen day siege by an army of 3,000 Mexican troops, the 187 Texas volunteers, including frontiersman Davy Crockett and colonel Jim Bowie, defending the Alamo are killed and the fort is captured.
