Happy Fat Tuesday! Here’s five things to know today that don’t involve beads.

  • Ann’s Choice is holding a volunteer recognition breakfast today at 11 a.m. at Spring Mill Country Club to honor the thousands of volunteer hours performed by the community’s members. Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick is scheduled to appear.
  • This year’s Warminster Day celebration has been scheduled for Sept. 10. The Warminster Rotary Club and the Tricentennial committee plan to have the new Safety Town dedicated during the event.
  • The Centennial school board meets tonight at 7 p.m. in the administration building. On the agenda is the vote to approve of the new Everyday Mathematics program for kindergarten-fifth grades, starting in the 2011-2012 school year.
  • The Pennsylvania General Assembly adopted a resolution recognizing March 8, 2011, as International Women’s Day.
  • Toyota has recalled 22,000 SUVs and pickup trucks because of improperly working tire deflation monitors. The affected models are 2008-2011 Sequoias, FJ Cruisers, Land Cruisers, Tundras and Tacomas. Honda has recalled 35,000 of its 2006-2007 model Civic hybrids to fix an electrical problem that can cause the headlights to turn off or the engine to stall. Chrysler has also recalled 2006-2007 Jeep Wranglers due to potential loose fasteners in its rear and front axles.
