Five Things for May 13

What's going on around town today.

  • There's still time to buy rubber duckies for the Duck Regatta at Kemper Park Sunday afternoon. The ducks will be released at 1 p.m. and float down Neshaminy Creek, with prizes awarded to first through fourth place. It's $5 per duck, or five ducks for $20, and they can be purchased at the WREC, township building or library.
  • Area rotary clubs, including Warminster's, will host a benefit art and sports memorabilia auction at the Villa at Five Ponds, May 21, at 6 p.m. for the End Polio Now campaign.
  • Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick the National Association of Letter Carriers for their continuing efforts to fight hunger across the United States.  During the annual event, scheduled for Saturday, May 14, thousands of local post offices and postal employees will participate in the food drive.  2011 is the 19th year the food drive has been conducted.
  • A pair of suicide bombers attacked recruits leaving a paramilitary training center in Pakistan on Friday, MSNBC reports, killing 80 people in a strike that the Pakistani Taliban claimed it carried out to avenge the killing of Osama bin Laden.
  • On this day, May 13, 1958, the trademark 'Velcro' is registered.
