Meet Scotty - He Sees With His Heart

Sight doesn't keep this little dog from loving.

Scotty the Terrier mix is living proof that blind dogs see with their hearts.

He is an adorable 6-year-old neutered male that came to the Bucks County SPCA in Lahaska from another shelter. Scotty was originally found as a stray but nobody ever claimed him, so he is ready and available to be someone's best friend.

Shelter staff say not to let Scotty's sight loss deter you from considering him as a life-long companion. Scotty has learned to use the sound of your voice and foosteps to find his way. He may be able to see shadows and light to help guide him and his ideal home would be with a family that can help him establish a daily routine.

Scotty is being helped with verbal cues at the shelter to help him know what's coming. Cues like "Wall" (when there is a wall in front of him); "Step" (change in floor level);  and "Treat" (when there is food).

The shelter advises a home with children above 13 years old that could help him navigate and learn new things.

A home that doesn't do a lot of furniture moving would be ideal since once Scotty establishes where everything is with his other senses,  it's important not to confuse him. So if you don't plan on moving your furniture anytime soon, Scotty would love to meet you!

Most of all Scotty needs a family to call his own, and he will give you back all the love you could ask for.
