  • An earthquake of preliminary magnitude 4.6  hit Maine at 7:12 p.m. Tuesday, CNN reports. The earthquake happened 3 miles west of Hollis Center, Maine.
  • On this day, Oct. 17, 1931, Al Capone was convicted of income tax evasion.
