Power Outage Affects 6,000 in Warminster, Upper Southampton

A bird flew into electrical equipment Tuesday evening, causing blackouts in several neighborhoods.

According to a PECO spokesperson, a large bird flew into some aerial electrical equipment at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night, plunging about 6,000 residences in Warminster and Upper Southampton into darkness.

"It took about an hour for crews to get the power back," said Liz Williamson.

Warminster police took to the streets to oversee activity at intersections where traffic lights shut down. The electricity came back on around 8:30 p.m.
