Tip: Experts from the association suggest reducing water to eliminate the threat of mosquitoes. For instance, empty out stagnant water collecting in dog bowls, plant saucers, sandboxes, tarps and gutters.

Toss: Remove grass clippings, piles of leaves and firewood from the yard.

Turn: Turn over items such as plastic toys, portable sandboxes and any other yard items than can accumulate water.

If you have tarps shielding firewood piles or protecting boats, car or sports equipment, make sure they are taut, or remove them. Otherwise, the tarp will collect water and attract mosquitoes.

And you can take it one step further and treat your lawn. The American Mosquito Control Association suggest using a mosquito elimination barrier treatment around the home and yard. If you choose to treat your home, you should reduce the need for using bug spray on your body, according to the association.

Try these tips and share your mosquito prevention suggestions.
