Craven Hall Prepares for Holiday Cheer

Warminster's Craven Hall hosted a fund-raising tea party last weekend and invites visitors to a holiday open house on Sunday.

Recently, Warminster's historic Craven Hall hosted a Holiday Tea Party complete with genuine Victorian hospitality that this event is so well known for.

Seven years ago, Nancy Carver, a volunteer who recently passed away, decided to hold a fund raising tea party for Craven Hall.  They receive no government funding, so rely on donations and events.

Approximately 24 guests attended the very first tea party seven years ago and each year attendance has grown. This past Sunday, volunteers dressed in Colonial costumes served 56 guests a combination of light appetizers, sherbert, sandwiches and pastries. And let's not forget the tea, after all, it is a tea party. Local restaurants and businesses donated some of the teas and items for the holiday raffle.

Invitations to the tea party were hand made by Kaiser Kreations and the event is completely organized and executed by volunteers.

Each tea event takes about four months to prepare according to Craven Hall volunteer, Sharon McCoy. The day before the event the volunteers make all the sandwiches and prepare the baked goods.

The next event will be a Holiday Open House on Sunday, Dec. 11 from noon to 4 p.m. It will feature open hearth cooking demonstrations, story-time and other children's activities. Guests will receive hot mulled cider from an early colonial recipe.

And what holiday event would be complete without a special visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus? They will arrive about 2 p.m. There will also be guided tours by interpreters dressed in colonial attire and the mansion will be decorated in with holiday elegance.

For more information about Sunday's Holiday Open House event, contact Craven Hall at 215-675-4698. And you can find them on Facebook at Craven Hall Historical Society.

Craven Hall is detailed with Greek Revival Architecture and holds a place on the National Register of Historic Places. Original construction dates back to 1726 and is located on the corner of Newtown and Street Roads in Warminster.
