Warminster Sailor Burned at Homecoming Party Dies

Pasquale Troisi, a Navy Petty Officer who was badly burned at his homecoming party in February, passed away on Monday.

It was supposed to be a homecoming party of sorts, but it turned into tragedy.

Celebrating his return from Afghanistan, Petty Officer 2nd Class Pasquale Troisi suffered serious burns after a freestanding fireplace exploded at a home on Broadway in Upper Moreland. Investigators said the explosion was caused by someone who poured gasoline on the logs to try and get wet logs to burn.

Troisi, 31, was in a medically induced coma at Temple University Hospital for three weeks after the Feb. 22 incident. His friend, 26-year-old Stephen Klink, jumped on top of Troisi to try and extinguish the flames. Klink was treated at the hospital and released shortly after.

Maggio's Restaurant in Southampton will host a benefit for the Troisi family on April 20 at 9:30 p.m. All donations will go to the family. Tickets are $20, $25 at the door.

"He has two small children," benefit volunteer Bette McPeak said. "We'll set up a scholarship fund and help pay for the funeral expenses."

It's been an extremely tough time for the family and they've spent their days and nights by his bedside since the incident.

"Nobody (in his family) has worked since this happened," McPeak said. "They've been waiting at his bedside. We don't care where the money goes. If they need to pay the electric bill, they can do that."

McPeak said they have 1,000 tickets for sale. She has calls out to radio stations to try and broadcast live from the benefit and is still waiting to hear back from them.

Two weeks ago the Upper Moreland Democratic Committee held a fundraiser to help Troisi and his family and raised over $200 for “Prayers for Pasquale.”

Though some reports described Troisi as a Navy SEAL, officials with Naval Special Warfare Command confirmed that he did not complete the training.

Troisi was a Warminster native and graduated from Archbishop Wood in 2001.
