George Washington's Delaware River Crossing

Each December, thousands gather on the banks of the Delaware River to watch the reenactment of George Washington’s daring Christmas Day river crossing. During the event, several hundred reenactors in Continental military dress listen to an inspiring speech by Washington and then row across the river in replica Durham boats.

This year’s reenactment is scheduled for Dec. 25 at 1 p.m. Those who cannot attend on Christmas can watch a full dress rehearsal on Dec. 8 from Noon to 3 p.m. (actual crossing time approximately 1 p.m.). During the dress rehearsal, the troops row across the river in uniform just as they do on Christmas, plus additional activities and demonstrations take place throughout the historic village. Cost to attend the dress rehearsal is $8 for adults, $4 for children age five to 11, and free for those under five. The Christmas Day crossing is free. Proceeds from the dress rehearsal support future programs in the park.

Washington Crossing Park is located at the intersection of Rts. 32 and 532. Individuals with disabilities who need special assistance or accommodations to participate in this event should call 215-493-4076.
