Community Update

I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.  Helen Keller

To start, I will say I am the first one to be guilty of not doing my part. We can all make this world a better place to live in. We spend too much time speaking about, reading about or writing about how the world can be a better place.  However, we also need to take ACTION.  Set a goal to take a daily, weekly or monthly ACTION. This may seem small but think about it over the period of one year. That is 365, 52 or 12 actions you performed over the course of one year.  Now multiply that by a life time.

Here are five suggestions in no particular order to get you started:

1.Volunteer.
There are many large organizations that have the resources to reach those in need.  They simply require more volunteers to help reach the people within the community who need food, shelter, healthcare.  Volunteer for an organisation that does work you believe in and who needs your help to keep doing it.

2.Donate.
Donate your clothes. Donate blood.  Donate to a food bank. Donate other used items that you really are not using anyway.

3.Mentor
Whether you have a school age child or not, children are the future of this world. Spend time helping them reach their potential by tutoring, mentoring or taking part in an after school program, church program or other community program.

4.Love.
Treat all people as equals.  Visit a nursing home. Talk to that person at church, work or in the community that no one seems to speak to.  Cook a meal for a shut in. Visit a sick person. Just say hello to a stranger and smile at them.

5.Forgive
We all make mistakes. We need to forgive others and let it go. We also need to apologize when we make mistakes.

I will close with the below:

Matthew 25:35-36For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.

Imagine the impact if each one of us performed a small ACTION.
