The third annual Run for the Troops race in Bucks County will benefit veteran Marine Corporal Marcus Dandrea, a double amputee and father of four.
The race will be held Saturday, May 10 at Tyler State Park in Newtown. Registration is open and is $30 for the 5K and $20 for the one-mile walk. Click here to register.
Marine Corporal Dandrea was on his second deployment in February 2011 when he lost both his legs in an IED blast in Sangin, Afghanistan.
“He was prepared for transport and medically evacuated from a mountain top by helicopter. After treatment in Kandahar, he was airlifted to England and then to Germany and finally to Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland where he continues to receive treatment and therapies,” race organizers explained.
Cpl. Dandrea has been selected to receive a new, specially adapted home from nonprofit organization “Homes for our Troops.” The organization builds all homes at no cost to the veteran through the generous support of individuals, foundations and corporate contributors, race organizers said.
CertaPro Painters of the greater Philadelphia area is partnering with “Homes for our Troops” for the Third Annual 5K Walk and Run.
“This means so much to me and my family. We will never have to worry about the financial burden of finding a home that meets my needs. It will make our life a lot better and I cannot thank Homes for our Troops enough for giving us this opportunity,” Cpl. Dandrea said.
