Bucks SPCA Gets $30K Gift

The Bucks County SPCA (BCSPCA), an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of animals, recently received a generous donation from the Norman Raab Foundation. 

The $30,000 contribution enabled the BCSPCA to repave its driveway and parking area, which had degraded from decades of frequent use.

The Norman Raab Foundation is a family-run philanthropic organization located in southeastern Pennsylvania that supports education, the biological and environmental sciences and community-based charitable organizations.

“We used to joke that our driveway was held together by glue and hope,” said BCSPCA Executive Director Anne Irwin.  “Thanks to the generosity of the Norman Raab Foundation, all of our visitors now have a safe and welcoming entrance to our shelter in Lahaska.”

Each year, thousands of animals come to the Bucks County SPCA’s shelter in Lahaska in need of a temporary safe haven.  Animals are given the food, shelter, medical care and training they need in order to find a new family and a happy life.

“All of the trustees of the Norman Raab Foundation feel very deeply that companion animals have an important role in people’s lives,” said Sara Raab McInerny, executive director of the Norman Raab Foundation.  “We are committed to supporting organizations in Bucks County that are doing the on-the-ground work which makes the county a better place to live.  I hope that our gift not only helps the BCSPCA but also inspires others to support their work.” 

The gift from the Raab Foundation is a part of the BCSPCA’s Centennial Campaign. Now in its final year, the campaign celebrates the organization’s 100 years of caring for animals and sets the stage for the next 100 years. 

The campaign helped to build and equip the new Upper Bucks Shelter in Quakertown and capital improvements at the Lahaska location are underway.  Campaign funds will also help to expand humane education programs and cruelty investigations, as well as provide care for all animals.

“Many people don’t realize that the work we do is funded by private donations,” said Irwin. “They think we’re funded by the county, or by national animal welfare organizations. In truth, it is the compassion and generosity of our community that has allowed us to grow and thrive.  We are very grateful to the Norman Raab Foundation, and Bucks County is truly a better and more humane place thanks to its generosity.”

The Bucks County SPCA provides effective means for the prevention of animal cruelty throughout the county and enforces cruelty laws, educating the community about companion animal issues and care.  

The organization also shelters stray or unwanted animals, placing adoptable animals into permanent homes, and works with the Pennsylvania legislature to improve upon state animal laws.
