The empty box

In each one of us lies the ability to enjoy that which is amazingly possible,

With the holiday almost here some people are out shopping for items for those who are on their Christmas lists, and some are out stressing about how they are going to not only put food on their family's plates but how they are going to give their loved ones something, anything, for this holiday season. Sad how people cannot really comprehend that the spirit of the season is about giving, and I don't in any way mean "gifts" although one could consider love a gift, but it's the little simple things that make the holiday, it's the love not the money.

Now, I have given to Goodwill, Salvation Army, Toys for Tots and so on, but I think my most special gift is the empty boxes that are under my tree! And yes there are empty boxes there. Some might think I must be crazy to put empty boxes under the tree, however I have incorporated into my traditions empty boxes under the tree.

My grandchildren live with me and although one is 7 and the other is 4, and they are very excited for the holiday, they do not believe in Santa, they were never told that theory. Instead, me being the grandmother, I have chosen to teach them the meaning of St Nick, the fact that he was a real man and that he gave home made items, they believe in the magic of the season, the understand the change of the seasons, and now they are learning about the empty box.

So you ask what that box signifies?  Well as I told my grandchildren, the box is
filled with wishes, filled with endless possibilities, they can put all their great intent of anything and everything they want to achieve into the box and tie it shut with a pretty bow or whatever they have. They can shake it every day, that keeps the energy flowing, then one Yule eve when they go to sleep, if they wake up and find anything in the box (and it could be a piece of candy to a piece of paper) then they know the spirit of the season can make anything happen!

My grandchildren really get excited with traditions such as these for each year they appreciate all that is around them, all that is, period!

So instead of stressing over funds, instead of rushing into a purchase one really cannot afford or even need, why not try giving yourself the best gift, the gift of endless possibilities that the spirit of the season wants you to have....
