The Spirit of the season

What do you believe? What do you feel? What is the holiday?

With the holidays approaching quickly and the stores already
putting the Christmas decoration out along with the music being played on the
radio stations it makes me wonder about the real spirit of the holiday. I have
made it a point for the past many years to not fall into the "Merry
Christmas" greeting to those I speak to but instead wish them a happy
holiday. Now some will look at this as taking Christ out of the holiday, and I don't
actually believe that they go hand in hand but that's just my take on it, but
the reason is that with so many different spiritual paths that are out there
and to be politically correct in addressing people, one should leave their belief out of the mix and go with a generic statement! In doing this most people of all walks of life are greeted with a positive statement, and I am sure those who follow Christ and believe that Christmas has something to do with him well there in no way they could get upset with the greeting either!

I don't knock other peoples beliefs because as I would not want them to knock mine, I do however believe that the spirit of the season has much become to commercialized and that that is the fault of the general public. In these tough times some people find it hard to "give" to even their own immediate families, which turns the holiday into a horror. But if people would stop worrying about what they don't have and start appreciating what they do, they could honor that. They could play games with their children, watch TV, anything that is meaningful because isn't that supposed to be the "meaning" of the holiday!

Be happy with who and what you have/are, be willing to put
aside the commercialized bull crap and get back to the real meaning, what ever
belief you have.
